Was a Merchant and store owner.. and had other business dealings in real estate..Went to California during the Gold Rush with his Brothers Ezra and George. Lived in New York Ohio and Illinois then to Fort Vancouver Washington , Portland Oregon and Washougal Washington.. . Moved All over the Country , never stayed in one place very long...

Joseph Durgan Jr. was a farmer, County Merchant of a butcher shop in Vancouver with 2nd wife Frances in the Clark County 1880 Census, Joseph and Frances L. Bailey Speas Durgan lived with his daughter and her husband, Minerva and Albert Kersey and grandson Herbert D. Kersey. He and first wife, Catherine Amidon and son Simeon (1850-1923) crossed the Oregon Trail in 1854 also in the partywere his father and mother and several of his sisters and brothers.
